Obafemi Awolowo University is a federal government owned and operated Nigerian university. It was established in 1962 as the University of Ife. In 1987 it was renamed Obafemi Awolowo University in honour of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, one of the university’s founding fathers and eminent lawyer, nationalist, and politician.
The university is organized into 13 faculties, which offer a range of undergraduate courses. There is also the postgraduate college and the College of Health Sciences. The university has a number of institutes including the Institute of Cultural Studies, Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, and Institute of Public Health.

OAU Admission requirements
Candidates are to meet certain requirements if they are to be admitted into the university to study any desired course. Below are the admission requirements for Obafemi Awolowo University for the 2024/2025 Session:
- Candidates must have not less than five credit in their senior secondary school certificate examination (O’level exam) in relevant subjects not excluding mathematics and English language
- Also, a minimum score of 200 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation examination (UTME). However, certain courses may require that a candidate score more to be considered for admission for that course.
- Candidates are also expected to meet up with the additional requirements for each program. This includes the o’level and UTME subject combination, age, and so on.
Note: Candidates will past through post UTME screening before they can be considered for admission. Only those who must meet the cut off mark in the post UTME screening exercise as required by the various departments will be considered for admission.
