The Confucius Institute Award 2023–2024 is a fully funded scholarship for international students. More than 150 Chinese universities are offering this grant to students interested in studying Chinese language and culture. The CIS scholarship benefits includes tuition, housing costs, health insurance, and a monthly personal spending allowance.

Eligibility for Hanban Confucius Institute Scholarships
The eligibility is for Students who study Chinese at Germantown Academy and as well anyone who passes the required exam at the Germantown Academy Chinese Testing Center.
- Applicants must not be Chinese nationals.
- Applicant must be between 16 and 35 of age.
- For Categories 4 and 5, applicant must pass the HSK III and Speaking Tests at the Germantown Academy Chinese Testing Center.
- For Categories 6, Applicant must pass the required HSK II and Speaking Test scores at the Germantown Academy Chinese Testing Center.
Scholarship Coverage
Applicants who pass the screening tests is considered successful and stand a chance to be covered under the following:
- Registration fee
- Monthly payment
- Tuition
- Basic educational resources/ basic learning materials
- Campus accommodations
- Successful applicants also enjoys outside-the-hospital medical care.
- One-time relocation assistance (conditional)
- Insurance coverage for international students studying in China’
Note importantly that: Flight costs are not included in the Confucius Institute Scholarship.
Procedures for Hanban Confucius Institute Scholarships application
- To Register for a personal account on the Hanban Scholarship, visit their website at http://cis.chinese.cn.
- Read the announcement outlining the Confucius Institute Scholarship application procedures and host institute details;
- Log onto your account. Fill out the online Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form, then submit it. Please choose Germantown Academy as an institution;
- By Ending of may 2024, send the completed application form (by mail), and other required materials to Confucius Classroom at Germantown Academy, c/o Susan Xuan, 340 Morris Road, Fort Washington, PA 1903
What are the required Documents for Hanban Scholarships?
The few required documents for the funded scholarship includes;
- Photocopy of passport photo page
- Page results from the written and oral HSK examinations. (photocopy)
- certified highest education degrees or other evidence of studies
- Applicants under the age of 18 must produce the necessary legal documents from their Chinese guardians.
