Important Information for Applicants

Applicants to the Morehead-Cain Scholarship can submit Early Decision (ED) applications to a number of different colleges and universities in addition to their application to the Morehead-Cain Scholarship. Morehead only asks that candidates let them know as soon as possible if they are granted Early Decision admission to another school, and if they are not granted ED admission but would still like to participate in our process, we ask that they do not apply for binding ED II. This is our only requirement.

The application for admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is handled in a manner that is distinct from that of Morehead-Cain. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Carolina should receive any paperwork and communications that are related to the university’s admissions process. The application date for admission to Carolina is the 15th of January in the year 2024.

You can submit an application to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before the Early Action deadline of January 15, 2024, even if you are not a school nominee and do not attend a school that nominates students. Through the Admissions Referral Program, the Morehead-Cain Scholarship is open to any and all students who submit their applications to the University of North Carolina before the Early Action deadline (ARP).

The Morehead-Cain and Robertson scholarships are separate merit-based financial aid opportunities offered by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A candidate for either of the scholarships may simultaneously be considered for both of them.

Because Morehead-Cain is following the recommendations provided by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the selection process for scholarships in the 2024 cycle will no longer involve the use of standardized tests. Students who are unable to submit test results or who choose not to do so will not be penalized in any way in the selection process that we use. When evaluating your application, we put a lot of emphasis on the level of intellectual rigor you maintained throughout high school, as well as the classes you took and your overall academic record.
