What is New Colombo Plan scholarship?
The New Colombo Plan is a major initiative of the Australian government. Its goal is to help Australian undergraduates study and do internships in the Indo-Pacific region to learn more about it.
It makes it easier for students to move back and forth between Australia and the rest of our region. This adds to the thousands of students from our region who come to Australia every year to study.
The New Colombo Plan is meant to be a game-changer by making Australia’s relationships in the region stronger, both between individuals and between universities, businesses, and other organizations.
The Australian government wants it to be a rite of passage for young Australian college students to study and work in the Indo-Pacific.
In 2014, the New Colombo Plan started as a pilot. It helped 40 scholars and more than 1,300 mobility students study and do work placements in four pilot locations: Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong.
The New Colombo Plan now helps students study and do internships in 40 places in the Indo-Pacific, from South Asia in the west to Mongolia in the north and the Cook Islands in the east.
The New Colombo Plan helps about 10,000 Australian undergraduates every year. These students come from all over Australia and show the diversity of the country.
All of these scholars and mobility students can join the New Colombo Plan Alumni Program, which helps them stay in touch with each other, the New Colombo Plan, and the Indo-Pacific region as they move forward in their lives and careers.
Over time, the growing number of New Colombo Plan alumni will play an increasingly important role in Australia’s relationships with its neighbors. They will become an influential and diverse network of Australians with direct experience in the Indo-Pacific, strong professional and personal networks across our region, and a driving force in Australia’s future prosperity.

Scholarship Amount
The New Colombo Plan Scholarship covers tuition fees, the cost of study for up to one Academic Year (including student service and amenities fees). Where students are studying as fee-paying international students, up to a maximum of $20,000 ($10,000 per semester or $6,666 per trimester).
What kind of Scholarships are offered by the New Colombo Plan?
The New Colombo Plan includes a program of prestigious scholarships for up to a year of study and internships or mentorships, as well as a program of flexible mobility grants for short-term and long-term study, internships, mentorships, practicums, and research. All study paid for by the New Colombo Plan must count toward an Australian undergraduate degree.

Students must first talk to the New Colombo Plan Scholarship Liaison Officer at their university to find out how to apply. When the application period opens, students who have been nominated by their universities will be asked to apply for the NCP scholarship.
