The 2024 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) grants 126 postgraduate students scholarship every year. It is a one-off and non-renewable grant of $10,000 which is awarded to athletic students who are in the sports and also who transcend academically and athletically. Each sports season is in fall, winter, and spring, there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women making a total of 126 scholarships for postgraduate students every year.

About NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

President Theodore Roosevelt who was a longtime football fan called together athletics leaders from some of the top football schools Harvard, Princeton, and Yale in October 1905 and urged them to work on the game. As football deaths and injuries continued to increase during the 1905 season, New York University Chancellor Henry M. MacCracken called for a meeting of 13 schools to improve football rules. Then, on December 28th in New York, 62 colleges and universities became alliance members of the Intercollegiate Athletic Association of the United States, which later lead to the introduction of the NCAA.

NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship Eligibility and Requirements

Below are the Eligibility and requirements for the NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship Applicants and Aspirants.

  1. All applicants must be in the final year of undergraduate academic work or receive an undergraduate degree.
  2. Are good citizens and excellent role models for the club and intercollegiate athletics.
  3. All applicants must have a total undergraduate minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 (based on a 4.0 scale) or its equivalent, all undergraduate hours earned at all undergraduate institutions the applicant attended inclusive. The grade-point average may not carry any graduate-level hours.
  4. All applicants must register in a graduate degree-granting program on a part-time or full-time basis at an academically approved graduate or degree-granting professional school.
  5. All applicants must have had with A-plus as a varsity team member in the sport in which the student-athlete is being given. The degree of the student-athletes athletic accomplishments will be calculated in conjunction with academic performance, institutional engagement, and volunteer community service. Individuals submitting letters of recommendation should note participation in activities in which the student-athlete is shown an example to other students and displays leadership attributes.
  6. All applicants must be enrolled in a graduate degree-granting program one year after the academic year the scholarship was given.  Funds must be used in the same academic year.
  7. The scholarship cannot be used to finance any undergraduate outcome.
  8. All applicants must be in the final season of NCAA athletics eligibility or must have completed athletic eligibility.

NB: Student-athletes attending a provisional member institution are not allowed to be awarded NCAA scholarships.  As well as, a scholarship benefactor cannot use more than one NCAA scholarship award for graduate studies. International student-athletes are qualified to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship Sport Seasons 2024

There are three scholarship windows each year based on sports seasons. The seasonal sports are listed below. upcoming sports are in bold. Remember: indoor track and field, cross country, and outdoor track and field are separate sports.

NCAA Fall Season

  1. For Men: Cross Country, Football, Soccer, and Water Polo
  2. For Women: Volleyball, Equestrian, Triathlon, Field Hockey, Rugby, Soccer, and Cross Country

NCAA Winter Season

  1. For Men: Basketball, Wrestling, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Swimming and Diving, Indoor Track and Field, Rifle, Skiing, and Fencing
  2. For Women: Bowling, Basketball, Fencing, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Indoor Track and Field, Rifle, Wrestling, Swimming and Diving, and Skiing.

NCAA Spring Season

  1. For Men: Baseball, Lacrosse, Golf, Outdoor Track and Field, Volleyball, and Tennis
  2. For Women: Acrobatics and Tumbling, Golf, Lacrosse, Outdoor Track and Field, Rowing, Beach Volleyball, Softball, Tennis, and Water Polo.

NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship Regions and Locations

Nominations are initially reviewed by 7 regional selection committees within the US

Region 1: Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont.

Region 2: Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

Region 3: Florida, District of Columbia, Maryland, Georgia, South Carolina,  North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Region 4: Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

Region 5: Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

Region 6: Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.

Region 7:  Arizona, Alaska, California, Colorado, Canada, Hawaii, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Washington DC.

Scholarship Deadlines and Open Dates 2024

The NCAA postgraduate scholarship deadlines vary because the program is done in all three annual seasons with sports for the season. But deadlines are always on the same month yearly, below are the deadlines for the 2024 NCAA post-graduate scholarship.

Fall NCAA postgraduate scholarship:

  • Application opens:  September 15th, 2023
  • Deadline:  January 14th, 2024

Winter NCAA postgraduate scholarship:

  • Application opens:  January 14th, 2023
  • Deadline:  April 8th, 2023

Spring NCAA postgraduate scholarship:

  • Application opens:  March, 2024
  • Deadline:  June 7th, 2024

NB: the application closes on the deadline date at 5 p.m. ET

How To Apply For NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

  1. Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) nomination.
  2. Student-athlete section: To be completed by the applicant; which includes a formal personal essay.
  3. Transcript(s) section: All applicants must upload their official transcripts before the submission of the application.  Official transcripts must be scanned and uploaded to the system as a .pdf file.  All transcripts must be uploaded one time. Transcripts must show all undergraduate work. (NB: An online transcript is not needed to meet this requirement).
  4. Letters of Recommendation:
    • From The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
    • From your Coach or someone in the position to authorize the student-athletes input to intercollegiate athletics.
    • From someone in the position to speak to your community service and leadership.
    • A professor lecturing in the course of the student-athlete baccalaureate degree.
    • The affirmation tab will come after an applicant has listed each recommended information such as name and email address and after you have submitted your application.  The endorser will receive a quick response via email upon application submission only.  The recommended email address provided by the applicant must be used to log in to Program Hub to approve. This is the email address in which the alert was received.

(NB: All recommendations should be viewed as formal recommendations for the applicant).

Scholarship Amount

The one-off and non-renewable scholarships of $10,000 are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sports season (fall, winter, and spring) for both sexes.
